On 27 June 2023, the government approved Resolution No. 376/2023 providing one-time financial assistance to residents of the city of Banská Bystrica, in accordance with the provisions of § 28a of the Act of the National Council of the Slovak Republic no. 42/1994 Coll. on civil protection of the population, as support for damaged houses, motor vehicles and roads caused by strong wind.
In the night between 16 August 2021 and 17 August 2021, an extensive material damage occurred in the territory of the city of Banská Bystrica. The storm caused the roofs of houses to be torn off and damaged in several places in the city. Trees were uprooted and broken and fell on buildings, motor vehicles, roads and damaged catenary lines. The worst situation was in Podlavice and its surroundings, where strong winds tore off the roofs of more than ten family houses. At the meeting, the verification committee assessed the validity of the submitted requests for the provision of one-time financial assistance, or requests of city residents. The verification committee assessed a total of 3 applications. Calculation of damages according to the submitted requests of residents who meet the social criteria according to § 28a par. 4 of the Act on Civil Protection of the Population, is in the total amount of €58,300.
The approved funds in the amount of €58,300 were paid out. The government released these funds from the General Treasury Administration chapter to the budget chapter of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic and then approved their transfer to the affected entities.
