Background information

Volkswagen Slovakia places special emphasis on the environment and its protection. All efforts are directed towards the production of cars and company operations without impact on the environment, or carbon neutrality. The company has set itself – as part of the Volkswagen Group signing up to the Paris Agreement – professional corporate goals that go beyond the commitments stemming from the Volkswagen Zero Impact Factory brand Strategy. The Zero Impact Factory strategy includes the goal of producing vehicles that are 45% more environmentally friendly by 2025 compared to the reference year of 2010. However, Volkswagen Slovakia has decided to speed up and achieve up to 59% more ecological production in five key indicators within the given time frame. This means that for every vehicle produced, it will produce at least 59% less CO2 emissions, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and disposed waste. With the Zero Impact Factory strategy, the company is setting a new direction for ecological production and logistics as its contribution to climate protection and CO2-neutral mobility.

Content of measure

The goal of the Zero Impact Factory strategy is to achieve more ecological production in five indicators: increase in energy efficiency, saving water, reducing the amount of waste, limitation of emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC), and limitation of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Optimisation of processes and technologies contributes not only to energy savings, but also to the efficiency of vehicle production. A significant shift occurred in 2023, when the automaker reduced its overall environmental impact by 67.5% compared to 2010. Energy efficiency increased by more than 60%. Since 2010, Volkswagen has managed to reduce the amount of disposed waste per manufactured vehicle by 68%. Since 2013, Volkswagen Slovakia has exclusively used energy from renewable sources, reducing the carbon footprint and supporting sustainable development. Volkswagen Slovakia focuses on the comprehensive improvement of its production process, which has a positive impact not only on the environment but also on the economic side of the company's operations.

Use of measure

increased the energy efficiency of production by 60%, thereby contributing to fulfilling the obligations in the area of reducing environmental impacts. In the field of energy, the company should have improved by 60.38%, while since 2013 it has exclusively used electricity from renewable sources. Since 2010, Volkswagen has managed to reduce the amount of disposed waste per manufactured vehicle by 68%.
