Background information

This case describes investments in the green transition and electrical capacity as outlined in the budget for 2024.

Because of a projected increased use of electricity within both private and public sector, as well as being a measure to aid in green transition and strengthening electrical supply lines, the Swedish Government has decided to increase funding for electrification.

This will be done primarily by giving funding to regional governance and is also built upon a previous commitment to strengthen electrical supply lines in the west of Sweden.

Content of measure

This budget increase is meant to cover the entirety of Sweden and will include a range of both public and private actors. Whilst its is uncertain what the exact private and public actors will be, what is certain now, however, is that it will primarily be organized on a regional level, and not on a national level; with funding being given out by the central government to local actors, who are then in turn given leeway in what actions to pursue.

The additional SEK 250 million (€21 million) is to be used during 2024, and funding is expected to be increased to SEK 290 million (€24.36 million) during 2025.
