Background information

In lieu of extreme weather acts around the world, the Swedish Government has decided to donate SEK 630 million (€53 million) to the United Nations Green Climate Fund. This is at the request of the Green Climate Fund, who has requested USD 755 million (€704 million) for 12 key projects mainly in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Content of measure

The donation, totalling SEK 630 million (€53 million), will be donated directly to the Green Climate Fund. It is then up to the Green Climate Fund to decide the optimal management of resources; although it should be noted that Sweden is a member of the board for the Green Climate Fund, and therefore has some leeway in how these resources are used.

Of what we know now, USD 66 million (€61,578,000) will allocated for the World Wide Fund for Nature, USD 235 million (€219,255,000) to the development bank of South Africa, and USD 117 million (€410,916,100) to Acumen Capital Partners. The resulting capital will be divided among smaller donations.
