Background information

The Swedish Government will now aid economically in the creation of privately managed charging-stations for electric vehicles. Previously, only the building of publicly managed charging-stations where subsidized. This economic aid was enabled through Ordinance (2019:525) which came into effect during the autumn of 2019.

This new regulation replaces the old government initiative called 'Klimatklivet'.

Content of measure

The grant can be applied for by housing associations, companies and other organisations that want to offer electric vehicle charging for residents and employees. The grant cannot be distributed to private individuals. Nor can it go to charging stations intended for the general public or charging stations that must be installed according to law, other regulations or conditions for authorisations.

The total monetary compensation per charging-station is 50% of the total cost, with a maximum of €1,269 awarded per charging-station. According to the Swedish Government, some of the costs that could be covered by this support is labour, material, digging and installation. Currently, the processing time per application is 4-7 months.

Use of measure

As of November 2023, around 10,000 applications have been approved, and in total SEK 930,073,684 (€78,643,990) has been paid out in grants.
