Background information

The City Hall of Bucharest’s district 4 has announced a package of measures for residents in response to rising fuel prices, combining direct financial assistance, public transportation benefits, and the elimination of a recently introduced local tax.

The local authority has granted a fuel subsidy totalling 600 lei (€120), payable in three instalments of 200 lei (€40) every two months over the next six months. According to a press release of District 4 City Hall, these measures were approved by the District 4 Local Council during an emergency meeting to ensure that the aid reaches citizens as quickly as possible.

Content of measure

To receive this support, which is of paramount importance given the rapid, day-to-day or even hour-to-hour rise in fuel prices—a trend reflected in the cost of all the products and services consumed by the community—citizens must meet the following requirements:

• have been a district 4 resident for at least one year, • own or lease a single car per family (husband/wife), • the car must have an engine displacement of no more than 2,000 cubic centimeters, • own only one property (building or land) in Romania, • be employed, with at least three months of service at the current place of employment, • have a net income of no more than 5,000 lei (approx. 1 000 euro) per person or no more than 10,000 lei (approx. 2 000 euro) per family (husband, wife, and children), • have all due taxes and fees paid up to date, • have an existing or new user account in the “Primăria Sectorului 4” app or on the start.ps4.ro platform.

None of these criteria are barriers, but rather a guarantee that the aid reaches those who truly need it. To access this type of aid, citizens who meet the above conditions can easily submit an online application through the “Primăria Sectorului 4” app or via start.ps4.ro.

There, they will find a button labelled “Fuel Assistance", where they can follow all the steps to apply. It is important to mention that the assistance specifically targeted working people, those who are employed and who must be helped to retain their jobs.
