Background information

The urban pollution and traffic congestion caused by heavy car use, poor development, and safety for users of pedestrian infrastructure for bicycles and scooters. In addition, low attractiveness of public transport caused by means of transport public transport, poorly planned routes, lack of predictability, low speed of public transport travel, low comfort and safety for travelers are the challenges for launching the measure.

The main objective of the policy is to increase the capacity, quality and attractiveness of public passenger transport and environmentally friendly modes of transport.

Content of measure

Through this measure the administrative territorial units can purchase of public transport: trams, trolleybuses, buses, and minibuses zero-emission urban transport including loading stations and refueling. The applicants can invest in the transport systems and local public passenger transport systems non-motorized alternative transport: lines tram and trolleybus lines, infrastructure for non-motorized transport, bike systems sharing, bicycle or other non-motorized means of transport /environmentally friendly.

The authorities are strongly encouraged to invest into reducing CO2 emissions in urban areas: intelligent energy systems transport, e-ticketing, energy management, fleet management, energy efficiency traffic management, transport stations parking ‘Park Ride’.

Use of measure

The budget allocated to the measure is €156.97 million. The minimum amount for the administrative territorial units is €500,000. The maximum amount for the administrative territorial units is €32,5 million. Special attention is given to the projects which are implemented in Integrated Territorial Initiative - ITI Valea Jiului.
