Background information
As a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which started on 24 February 2022, many people entered Poland to seek refuge. The LUX MED Group decided to offer free urgent medical assistance to all the refugees from Ukraine after the start of the war because initially their access to healthcare was not guaranteed by the law. It was later regulared by the Special Act issued on 12 March 2022.
Content of measure
LUX MED, a private healthcare provider, offers free urgent medical assistance to citizens of Ukraine and people of other nationalities who came from Ukraine. It is required that a refugee has a valid certificate issued by the Border Guard of the Republic of Poland or an imprint of the stamp of the Border Guard of the Republic of Poland in the travel document, confirming the legal stay on the territory of the Republic of Poland, after crossing the border from February 24, 2022. The clinics offer help with emergency situations, acute infectious diseases, chronic diseases, pregnancies, vaccinations and emergency dental help.

The following updates to this measure have been made after it came into effect.

From the beginning of 2024, the model for the provision of assistance to Ukrainian patients by the LUX MED Group has changed. Those who arrived from Ukraine after the outbreak of hostilities will receive free assistance in accordance with the regulations. The LUX MED Group offers a wide range of services to this group, in particular consultations and services within the framework of primary health care and outpatient specialist care.
Patients who do not qualify for assistance from the National Health Fund but who require planned medical care may apply to the LUX MED Foundation, which will confirm the extent to which it can provide assistance within its financial and legal capacity. The Foundation will reply within 30 days.

Use of measure
In July 2022, LUX MED reported that it had assisted around 100,000 people from Ukraine in the five months since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The company continues to support refugees from Ukraine in 2023, with availability depending on the region of the country.
