Background information

After the floods of July 2021, many farmers in the floodplains of the diked Meuse river suffered damage to their crops as a result of the high water. The government decided that these farmers had to be compensated for their crop plan damage. The Regulation on compensation for floodplain crop damage July 2021 (Regeling tegemoetkoming teeltplanschade uiterwaarden juli 2021, TTU) was created for this purpose.

Content of measure

Eligible farmers for this scheme should have had their business with an agricultural activity registered with the Chamber of Commerce on 15 May 2021. Agricultural activities are defined by NACE codes starting with 011, 012, 013, 014, 015 or 016. NACE code 1051 is also an agricultural activity if the farmer produces at least 50% of processed milk on his or her own dairy farm.

TTU conditions were in the first place the situation of a farmer's plots outside the dykes along the Meuse. That is the part of the river between Mook/Boxmeer to the point where the Meuse flows into the Amer. This is the damage area. Only cultivation plan damage qualifies for this compensation. The cultivation plan damage must have occurred in the damage period from 15 July to 22 July 2021. The damage may have manifested itself later. The damage occurred as a direct and immediate consequence of freshwater flooding. The loss of production of the crop on the farm is considered for each crop. The total of your damage and costs, excluding evacuation costs, exceeded €1,322. The production loss relative to the average yield of the relevant production direction was at least 20%.

Use of measure

223 farmers applied for TTU. The budget for this regulation was €4,5 million. No further information available yet.
