In October 2024, Lithuania has parliamentary elections. The newly elected Seimas (Parliament) began its work in November 2024. The Social Democratic Party of Lithuania has won the Seimas elections, while the incumbents, the Homeland Union - Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD), have come second. Taking into account the change in the political situation, as well as the geopolitical and energy challenges, demographic challenges, low productivity, and insufficient investment in innovations, the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists (LPK) has prepared proposals for the 2024-2028 policy cycle. LPK is a business organization representing Lithuanian and foreign interests, which unites 54 sectoral and 8 regional associations in all major industries. LPK represents companies responsible for 59% of Lithuania's GDP. LPK member manufacturing companies account for 83% of Lithuania's total export production.
LPK's package of proposals covers education policy, demography and migration, tax environment, business environment, environmental protection and circular economy, energy and climate change, policy for processing food and feed industries and agriculture (agri-food), defense industry, innovation and R&D, regional policy, transport, infrastructure, and logistics, and foreign economic policy. Proposals for the improvement of the environmental protection policy cover: - Promoting the renovation process (simplifying the public procurement process, increasing financing, and advancing panel-based renovation); - Developing Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology; - Establishing a long-term strategy for forestry development; - Ensuring proportionate public governance across all key areas of forestry; - Aligning the national forest policy with the Forest Europe’s multi-objective forestry provisions; - Ensuring that forest policy decisions are based on scientific advancements and aligned with the European Green Deal.
The proposals prepared by the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists (LPK) for the 2024-2028 policy cycle are addressed to the new government.
