Background information

The Law Decree no. 73 (article no. 67), issued on 25 May 2021, introduced a financial support for extraordinary expenses incurred during the COVID-19 emergency to the publishing companies of newspapers and periodicals that signed supply chain agreements, including those signed through their representative associations, aimed at guaranteeing sustainability, continuity and capillarity in the diffusion of the newspapers, in particular in small municipalities and in municipalities with only one newspaper agency.

Content of measure

The Law Decree no. 73 (article no. 67), issued on 25 May 2021, introduced a financial support for the extraordinary expenses incurred during the COVID-19 emergency to the publishing companies of newspapers and periodicals through a tax credit. The tax credit amounts up to the 30% of the expenditure incurred in the year 2020 for the distribution of the published publications, including the costs of transport from the printing poles to the points of sale and the agencies. The total tax credit is granted within the limit of €60 million for the year 2021, as established by Department for information and publishing of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. In case of insufficient resources available with respect to the requests submitted, the tax credit is allocated among all the beneficiaries in proportion to the tax credit abstractly due.
