Background information

The Ministry of Digital Governance announced on 29 September 2023, the launch of the application submission for vouchers under the 'Smart Readiness Infrastructure Programme for Buildings' in Greece. The Programme aims to upgrade the 'smart readiness' of Greece's existing building stock through the creation of modern digital infrastructures. This will enhance the penetration of high-speed broadband services into buildings and their integration with 'smart' meters of public utility networks (electricity, natural gas) without the need for significant additional work by the network operators. The programme is implemented by the Information Society S.A., within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0, funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU.

Content of measure

The 'Smart Readiness' programme subsidizes works related to the installation of infrastructure that will facilitate the conversion of a building into a 'smart' one.

The subsidized works include:

  • Installation of fiber optic networks within the building to facilitate the provision of high-speed broadband services in all areas of the building;
  • Installation of infrastructure for future connection of new "smart" meters of public utility networks (electricity, natural gas) to the central point of the building's electronic communications infrastructure;
  • Installation of infrastructure for future connection of the central heating boiler room and the elevator engine room to the central point of the building's electronic communications infrastructure.

Eligible buildings are single-family homes and apartment buildings, provided that:

They are located within the Intervention Area. They do not already have intra-building optical wiring. *They do not belong to the Public Sector.

To enroll a building in the programme, the Building Manager selects an installer registered in the Program Registry. The installer specifies the required works and submits a voucher issuance application.

The amount of the subsidy depends on the floors of the building and the eligible works, with the average amount ranging around €840.

Applications are submitted on smartreadiness.gov.gr from 2 October 2023, to 30 June 2025.

Use of measure

The total budget of the programme will be €100 million and is expected to benefit 120,000 properties.
