Background information

The measure of mobility management and guidance is part of a larger package of state subsidies awarded for the promotion of sustainable mobility, and to influence people's travel choices and improve road safety for .

The goal is to decrease solo driving by car and boost the appeal of public transportation and various mobility options, along with promoting walking and biking.

In accordance with a government decree 509/2018, mobility management is supported by state subsidies for public passenger transport services.

Content of measure

Annual grants for mobility guidance are intended for municipalities, joint municipal authorities and non-profit organisations. The grants are meant for a variety of projects aimed at influencing people's travel choices and strengthening sustainable mobility habits. These can be done for instance through information sharing or service experiments.

Awareness of sustainable transport choices will be raised mainly through communication, such as campaigns, theme days, brochures and different calculators. Grants through the measure can also be awarded to the development of urban cycling systems.

The subsidy is granted by the state aid authority for the transport administration, Traficom. A maximum of 75 % of a project's financing can come through the state grant. Application rounds occur once a year.

Use of measure

In 2024, a total of 32 projects received subsidies through the measure, ranging between about € 15,000 to € 67,000. In total just below € 1 million was granted in 2024.

Among the 25 projects receiving grants in 2023, focus has for example been on information sharing about climate effects of mobility, and awareness raising and promotion of more climate friendly transportation modes, such as public transportation, low-emission car sharing, and cycling.

In 2022, a total of around €1.21 million was awarded to 35 projects. The subsidy has been available for eligible recipients since 2015.
