Background information

In 2021, the Danish government agreed to allocate DKK 100 million (€13.44 million) for the green transition. The funds are being disbursed for the purpose of including vocational education and training in the green transition and climate ambitions. The political parties agreed to allocate funds to ensure the climate adaptation for 2022 in a long-term policy which will last until 2025.

Content of measure

The initiative focuses on four main areas:

  1. Specifying green conversion as a purpose in the Vocational Educational Act: the parties involved in the initiative want to highlight the importance of the vocational education as a key factor to fulfilling the green ambitions.
  2. Development and anchoring of knowledge and competence in the green transition: the parties want to strengthen and anchor the knowledge and competencies into the green transition. Knowledge and skills are essential to ensure the green transition, for which ten research centres were established with the purpose to collect and share knowledge within technology and skills associated with craftsmanship.
  3. Local initiatives within the green transition: the parties want to support local initiatives, activities, and projects that can support green transition, sustainability, and climate adaptation.
  4. Mapping needs and challenges: the parties want to map and secure vocational education into the green transition and sustainability.
