The portal provides up-to-date information, including short-term and long-term forecasts of drought, soil water saturation and their effects on vegetation in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and, to a limited extent, in the countries of the Central European region. The portal, which was created in 2012, is operated by a number of prominent Czech scientists.
The portal provides information on the impacts of drought, soil water saturation and an estimate of the relative condition of the vegetation relative to the normal state derived from data from the seasons 2000-2015. The website also provides information on damage to the soil fund by drought and its expected effects on agricultural yields. All data is processed into clear map overviews and graphs. The Intersucho portal is operated by three institutions. These are the Global Change Research Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (CzechGlobe), the Mendel University in Brno and the State Land Office. In the initial years, the project was financed from the Operational Program Research, Development and Education. Currently, the operation of the Intersucho portal is supported by the AV21 Strategy and the DriDanube project.
The forecast of soil moisture and drought intensity with a view of up to 9 days using a set of models for numerical weather forecasting serves for better decision-making in crop production and at the same time for more optimal use of agricultural land. The portal is used by the professional public and workers in agriculture and forestry.
