The State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic is a state institution of the Department of the Environment, which has been mediating investments in the protection and improvement of the environment in the Czech Republic since 1992. It co-finances, through subsidies and loans, projects contributing to the improvement of water quality, air quality, waste management and nature and landscape protection. It also supports environmental education, upbringing and enlightenment. The fund's advisory offices operate in all 13 regional cities of the Czech Republic.
The funds come from the structural funds of the European Union for the environment sector from the Operational Program Environment. Another source of funding is the sale of emission allowances. The New Green Savings program is financed from the proceeds of the sale of allowances. From 2021, the EU RRF – Recovery and Resilience Facility through the National Recovery Plan and subsequently the Modernization Fund established is also a source of funds. The Fund also mediates finances from the so-called Modernization Fund established by the European Commission and further from the EEA and Norway Funds. From its own resources, the Fund provides financial support to projects in the framework National Environment Program. In addition to the state budget, the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic represents the main source of investment in the environment and, at the same time, the basic economic instrument of state environmental policy.
As part of the administration of the Operational Program (OPŽP) 2014+ and OPŽP 2021+, the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic also performed the activities of an intermediary entity in 2022. In 2022 it administered a total of 4,137 requests for payment in the amount of CZK 7 billion from EU sources. In 2022, the National Environment Program provided CZK 4,111.9 million in the form of a subsidy and CZK 6.0 million in the form of a loan, a total of CZK 4,117.9 million. As part of the New Green Savings program, support in the amount of CZK 2,395.5 million was provided in 2022.
