The Scheme aims to provide financial incentives, in the form of non-repayable grants, for the installation or replacement of solar hot water systems in existing homes. It is implemented in accordance with the provisions of Article 5 of the ‘Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Saving Fund Operation Law’ of 2022 (Law 108(I)/2022) and funded by the Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Conservation Fund of the Republic of Cyprus.
Beneficiaries to apply for the subsidy scheme are natural persons that intent to invest in the installation or replacement of an integrated solar hot water heating system – i.e., hot water cylinder and solar panels – in an existing home. The applicant is not required to be the owner of the house as soon as the invoices related to the investment are issued in his/her name. Legal persons are excluded from the subsidy.
The properties in which the investment will be made must be a residence. The application for the building permit and/or urban planning permit for the residence must be have submitted before the 31/12/2011. Residences that are rented by legal entities and residences used for economic activities are excluded from the subsidy.
Eligible are only the solar system installation that are installed by the installers included in the list of participants of the scheme. Additionally, the equipment to be installed (cylinder and panels) must be included in the list of the eligible equipment as defined by the scheme.
The amount of subsidy is €500 per residence, which increased to €900 for both residences in the mountainous areas and for residences of the vulnerable electricity consumers, as defined by the Decrees 308/2023 and 309/2023 for the definition of energy poverty and vulnerable consumers, respectively.
The budget of the Scheme is €1 million and it is expected that 2,000 applications will be subsidized.

Social partners' role in the implementation, monitoring and assessment phase:
Social partners were not involved in the designing of the scheme. The design was held by the Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Conservation Fund of the Republic, which have the responsibility for informing the interested parties for the provisions of the scheme, receiving, sorting and registering applications, checking formal requirements of applications, providing full administrative support, processing evaluation and monitoring the implementation.
