Background information

The Walloon regional government aims to support companies confronted with significant issues because of the energy crisis. This support is part of the temporary crisis framework adopted by the European Commission to support the economy in the context of the ongoing war.

Companies that believe to be eligible can apply for a premium in order to alleviate the pressure created by the increase in costs.

Content of measure

A subsidy is provided to Walloon companies that have been struck by these rising costs. They can apply via a digital platform and complete their application on it. This platform is operational between 6 February 2023 and 5 March 2023. However, certain conditions apply, namely:

  • Having an annual energy bill of more than €7,500 for the year 2021 .
  • Not having resorted to economic unemployment above 35% compared to the reference period of the previous year.
  • Have not paid dividends to shareholders during the year in which they will receive regional support.
  • Having suffered an operating loss in the 4th quarter of 2022 or having suffered a reduction in operating income between the 4th quarter of 2021 and the 4th quarter of 2022
  • Having seen the amount of their electricity and/or gas bills double between the 4th quarter of 2021 and the 4th quarter of 2022
  • Having (at least) one operational headquarters impacted in the Walloon Region.
