The finances of the smallest businesses are often unable to support major energy investments on their own. However, the Walloon government believes that Wallonia's large pool of small and medium-sized businesses offers great potential in terms of energy production and insulation.
Demainvest, the result of a partnership between Luminus and Wallonie Entreprendre (formerly SOGEPA), is a green investment financing solution based on a third-party investor system. The goal is make certain expensive related energy investments available to companies that otherwise would not be able to afford them.
Demainvest is entirely responsible for the project and its operation, as well as a significant part of its financing. The company in question does not have to undertake actions within the scheme.
Possible investments relate to the development, construction and operation of energy efficiency projects, electricity supply and the production of renewable energy and heat.
A concrete example of a project realised by Demainvest was the construction of a wind turbine in Herstal on the grounds of IT provider NRB. 90% Of the energy produced by this wind turbine will be used to cover the energy needs of NRB, the remaining 10% will be transferred to the public energy net.
