Background information

Enterprises in the Flemish Region are eligible for a premium when they decide to implement ecological investments that are either environmentally friendly, energy-saving and/or renewable.

With the ecology premium, the Flemish government aims to encourage businesses to organise their production processes sustainably, climate-friendly, circular, and energy-efficient. In doing so, it assumes a portion of the additional investment costs associated with such an investment.

In 2018, the measure was allocated a total budget of approximately €20 million.

Content of measure

The subsidy amount is determined based on the stated incremental cost of the key investment components, type (environmentally friendly, energy-saving, renewable), eco-class/eco number and company size.

All companies with an operating branch in the Flemish Region and that have an eligible main activity are eligible for an Ecology Premium+. For the height of the premium, a distinction is made between SMEs and large enterprises.

The total amount of ecology premium granted cannot exceed €1 million per company over a 3-year period.

The aid is paid in three instalments (at the earliest one month after the decision to grant):

  • A first instalment (30%) after 30% of the investments are realised;
  • A second instalment (30%) after 60% of the investments have been realised;
  • A third instalment (40%) after completion of the investments and verification of the file.
